I am a descendant of Vietnamese imperialists: notably Emperor Hồ Quý Ly (胡季犛, 1336-1407), who secured his people’s power by reshaping currency and building a new writing system, and the Tây Sơn brothers (朝西山, 1743-1802), who seized a fractured nation and bent it to their will.

I also descend from a long line of successful global entrepreneurs: wholesale traders of Eastern healing medicines that have safeguarded thriving health for many people and communities over many generations, going back to pre-imperial times.

On the surface, my ancestors’ legacy may suggest a heroic lesson. One might look at that story and say: “Against all odds, destiny will make a way. Power and wealth must rightfully flow to those with the courage to dream and the will to succeed.”

But how do we know our wealth is truly rightful, and our desire to pursue it righteous?

We can glorify the past all we want, but modern times bring a harsh reality.

The empires of my ancestors have fallen. My once-royal family was forced to live under the rule of others, and had to leave our native lands to make homes in diaspora.

My ancestral legacy was broken by war, communism, usurped power, betrayal, and the need to escape from tyranny and oppression… which over the generations has led my family across the world, to my “ordinary” life in middle-class America.

Like many of my fellow Americans whose ancestors’ travels brought them here from all over the world, my own ancestors had quite a robust history, with many grand accomplishments, downfalls, and heroic risings from the ashes!

Yet I did not learn any of my ancestral history growing up, nor did I learn of my ancestors’ healing gifts.

Instead, my family told me that our traditional medicine was worth nothing, and I should just focus on survival.

Why did my family withhold the truth from me? The reason is quite simple and universal to all of us, no matter where we're from...

Over the generations, we absorb blame and shame that keep us from seeing our true destiny, holding us back from the wealth and wisdom that are rightfully ours.

But we can’t blame or judge the individuals in each generation for how this has played out. Keeping the truth hidden is often a survival tactic done out of good intentions, meant to keep our children and loved ones safe from the pain that comes from knowing who we were and what was done to us.

In times when powers of authority use violence to control us… it’s often necessary to temporarily hide the truth, in hopes that we won’t have to hide forever.

This repeated concealment of the truth, layer by layer, goes back hundreds and even thousands of years, impacting people of ALL races and backgrounds. When done for too long, it prevents all of us from knowing who we really are.

And while it may have served a purpose in the past for safety and survival, it’s up to us to recognize when we are ready to face and transform it for the sake of our future.

What part of your destiny was hidden from you… and what would change if you revealed and honored it?

With the truth of my real inheritance hidden from me, I struggled in my early twenties, ultimately reaching a low point in 2008-2009 as I faced a life-threatening, chronic illness. Doctors told me I was in a dangerous place without hope.

My poor health and feelings of hopelessness kept me stuck in my career, unable to commit to a consistent path that would pay the bills.

But something in me stayed strong - a spark of resilient life; a mysterious, inexplicable knowing that this endless struggle was NOT the life I was meant to lead!

And so my journey of seeking the truth began…

In 2011, I was introduced to the world of spiritual healing, and started to make slow incremental progress in my health, while also gradually developing my career and business over time.

Those years were quite a journey, with many insights and breakthroughs… yet the whole time, I knew deep down there was something MORE that I was missing!

I wanted more than just slow progress… I wanted BIG changes and a truly rich life! So I kept on searching…

In 2023, I finally met a mentor who ruthlessly challenged me to investigate and understand my real, ancestral, flesh-and-blood heritage.

My mentor instilled a conviction in me to find my purpose, face my fears, and embark on a life-changing journey to excavate my legacy through the generations.

Most importantly, this mentor helped me understand what it truly meant to decolonize my understanding of who I really am.

This went way beyond the typical politicized hype of what it means to be decolonial.

Growing in my decolonial journey allowed me to establish an unbreakable spiritual connection with my ancestors, going back thousands of years…

All the way back to an ancient, pre-imperial time when my people’s history had first been erased and warped… so I could uncover the whole truth of who we really were.

While I was initially nervous and resistant, I took that first step forward to recover my lost legacy - and almost immediately, things started to accelerate in my health and career faster than ever before.

I discovered that decoloniality is more than just politics: it’s a pathway anyone can use to reclaim their true identity and create a rich, fulfilling life in the here and now.

Since I embarked on my decolonial ancestral journey, I’ve experienced breakthroughs in health, marriage, and wealth.

Within months, I was promoted at my day job and began leading new projects.

In my business, I stepped forward after a dry spell to start making sales again, with greater confidence and strength than ever before.

After feeling frozen, helpless, and unsure of where to go next… I finally gained a sense of purpose and drive to move forward, take on new risks, and achieve new goals.

Why did things turn around so quickly and suddenly for me, after so many years of struggle?

It was because my inheritance, my destiny of bountiful abundance and happiness, had been waiting for me this whole time.

All of this became possible by recovering my hidden lineage of global entrepreneurship.
